The arguments around backwards compatibility are way more complex than she is making them out to be. Also you can’t stream 8 and 16 bit games.

When I first got my 360, I mostly just played Halo 2 on it. Backwards compatibility helps you get through the games drought the newest Xbox and PlayStation suffer from after release.

Those classic consoles should have the ability to add new games. Add a USB port for either a way to hook it to a PC to download new games you have legally bought or make it where you can add an external HDD where you can store games you own so you can play any games you own anytime you want. Going the external HDD way they could allow you to store game saves. Yeah, this only allowing 20 games to be played kills the concept for me of buying a very limited old-school console. Pass on this and give me the emulator please!

I didn’t have a SNES growing up. Got the SNES classic last year and beat multiple games on it and still playing it. I have to swap the HDMI with my Switch because Samsung only put 2 ports on my TV…whuuuut? Good idea about Bluetooth controllers for retro phone apps…as long as they fix any lag.

I did just that. Purchased the SNES last year, played it for maybe 3-4wks and haven’t played it since 🤦🏽‍♂️

If people would've studied When they were younger instead of playing on their consoles, they could've been able afford new games and consoles today. #lifelessonswithtze

Interesting that when talking to the points of backwards compatibility you fail to explain (at least for Xbox, don't know about the other consoles) that previously purchased games, be it in physical media or digital download, that they are playable without repurchase. I agree it's a waste to purchase these mini versions, but you make a horrible argument overall with the cherry picking of points to the over generalizations you portray to backwards compatibility as a whole.

Someone tell her that Xbox BC is free. If you own the disk you just need to install it on the Xbox One. Stick to phones and other tech CNET you are spreading lies

when i was a kid and i couldn't afford what was new (then xbox 360, ps3, and wii) i always thought that if i had the chance to play any assassins creed game, then i would take all the time in the world to enjoy it. I played one of them, oblivion for a while, then put it down for six months.
i am still lined up to get a retro console, because it's a legal alternative to roms given nintendo's recent actions, and there are some games i just don't think i could live without being able to play. actually my biggest issue though with having an actual xbox360 is that i don't trust it to survive being moved around too much. to me it is a good idea to get a version of a console (like the playstation) that is more durable than it's previous incarnation. why arent there any waterproof consoles?

Hmmm so assuming that you got that movie the year it was released (1993) and the 10 year old you couldn’t put it down. Which means you’re around 35 years old. GG well played 3:15

Xbox games pass offers a ton of newer games and all xbox exclusives day and date of launch. She didn't seem to know that. Back compat on xbox has nothing to do with Gamepass, Xbox offer back compat with over 500 tittles for FREE. No service required.

I really enjoyed what you said Ashley. I agree with you. I do think playing some of the older games that we all grew up with are going to look not as good on the new beautiful TVs that we have. As they probably look in our memories when we think of how they used to be. I definitely agree that I will probably play them for a few minutes but probably will not play most games all the way through. I've recently started playing some of the older games and was really frustrated having to save the game everywhere I'm so used to auto-saves now.

That’s actually a brilliant idea. Make subscription services on a tier so that more expensive, current generation games are excluded from a $5 a month price. I want to revisit classic games but that’s exactly the point; I want to visit them for an affordable price and then leave them to play current blockbuster games. Gameboy Tetris anyone?

Some good points but I think these devices are less for us who played them before but for new younger players who want to experience classic games.
